Sherigu is a large village outside Bolgatanga in the Upper East of Ghana. The village consists of several communities. For now Lost Opportunities Foundation is focusing their work on three of these communities; Tingane-Bisi, Sapieyo and Baglisi.
The northern parts of Ghana are known for harsh weather conditions, with long periods of dry weather and extremely high temperatures. The soil around Bolga is not very fertile for growing crops so feeding your family from farming alone is difficult. Most families have to supplement their income with handicraft work. Traditional basket weaving that is indigenous to this area, helps the families to overcome some of this shortfall.
Basket weaving traditions have been passed down from mother to daughter for generations. We will soon update this page with more information about the people and the village.
